Where do Armadillos Live?

Armadillo burrow entrance

Armadillos are found only in the Americas, with the nine-banded armadillo having the widest range, extending from Argentina through Central America and into the southern and central United States.

Most species favor warm climates with soft, diggable soil, since they spend much of their life in burrows, which provide shelter from both predators and temperature extremes.

A single nine-banded armadillo may maintain multiple burrows within its home range, switching between them seasonally or when one becomes unsafe.
